The patented Erema Vacurema extrusion system combined with the downstream equipment of Techno Plastic of Emilia, Italy, is producing high-quality PET strapping directly from 100 percent post-consumer, washed PET bottle flake. Techno Plastic is providing processors with a unique opportunity to view this technology at work at its facility on March 31 and April 1, 2014 at Techno Plastic, Via Cristoforo Colombo, 18 / Loc. Cavazzona / 41013 Castelfranco Emilia (MO) / Italy. To register by March 21, 2014 and for more information, email:

According to Tim Hanrahan, Erema North America CEO, Vacurema systems are widely known for pioneering bottle to bottle post consumer PET recycling, but they are also producing a variety of other end products in in-line configurations, including fiber and strapping as well as food contact grade sheet.
Vacurema systems employ a vacuum reactor with a directly connected single-screw extruder. In the process, washed, PET flakes are mixed and crystallized in the vacuum reactor by frictional heat in a process that both removes moisture and simultaneously decontaminates the material. After this process the material enters the intake zone of the extruder under high vacuum for the final step to produce high-quality melt.
Compared to less advanced multiple-stage processing systems with separate drier/crystalliser and extrusion plants, the overall energy consumption of the single-step Vacurema technology cannot be equalled. When Vacurema technology is directly feeding the Techno Plastic strapping system; lower quality PET scrap can be used, allowing for very low cost, high quality strapping.
